도널드 트럼프 (Donald Trump) 미국 대통령은 16 일 버락 오바마 (Barack Obama) 전 대통령이 쿠바와 맺은 국교 정상화를 위한 합의를 철저하게 검토하고 쿠바의 "잔혹하고 비정한" 정권이 국민을 보호 조치로 방향 전환해야한다고 밝혔습니다. 

플로리다 주 마이애미에있는 쿠바계 미국인의 중심지 리틀 하바나 (Little Havana) 극장에서 연설한 트럼프 대통령은 "나는 전 정권과 쿠바 간의 완전히 일방적인 합의를 즉시 파기"한다고 선언했다. 많은 쿠바계 주민이 모인 장소에서 "Viva Cuba libre!"(스페인어로 '자유로운 쿠바 만세'라는 뜻)라고 환성이 울렸습니다. 

트럼프는 또한 "우리의 정책은 쿠바와 미국인들에게 더 나은 합의를 목표로 한다. 우리는 쿠바 국민을 착취하고 억압하는 군사 독점을 지원하는 것을 원하지 않는다"고 밝혔습니다. 또한 "(쿠바) 정치범 전원이 석방되지 않으면 우리는 쿠바에 대한 경제 제재를 해제할 생각이 없다"고 선언했습니다. 

새로운 조치로 쿠바군의 지원을 받는 관광 복합 기업 GAESA와의 금융 거래가 금지됩니다. 라울 카스트로(Raul Castro) 국가 평의회 의장의 사위가 경영하는 이 회사는 미국 호텔 체인 기업 메리어트 인터내셔널(Marriott International) 등 여러 외국 기업과의 합작 사업에 참여하고 있습니다.
