숀 멘데스(Shawn Mendes)가 자신이 게이라는 소문에 대해 스스로가 이성애자(heterosexual)라고 선언했습니다.

 

 

제2의 저스틴 비버라고 불리는 캐나다 출신의 인기가수 Shawn Mendes는 그가 '게이 분위기'를 방출한다는 일부 온라인의 발언에 이같이 대응한 것입니다. Shawn Mendes가 유튜브에 올린 그에 대한 자신의 생각과 해명을 담은 동영상에서

 

'First of all, I'm not gay. Second of all, it shouldn't make a difference if I was or if I wasn't. The focus should be on the music and not my sexuality.'
'일단, 난 게이가 아니예요. 둘째로, 그렇더라도 내가 달라질 건 없습니다. 중요한 건 내 음악이지 성적 지향성이 아닙니다.'

 

라고 말했습니다. 또한 그런 사람은 자기 팬의 1%에 불과하다는 뉘앙스의 말도 덧붙였습니다.

That fact he makes a video about a 1% of insults just shows that this is a very big thing to him. He looks like he's been crying. A straight wouldn't cry from being called a 'fag' because they know they aren't one. A gay guy would however.

What was the point in him making this video other then to make it sound like being gay is a problem? If being gay wasn't a problem (which it isn't) then why would you need to make sure everyone knew you weren't gay?

I think he's trying to brush the subject under the carpet to avoid any further speculation about his sexuality. He's still young and it's likely he is afraid of what will happen to his career if he comes out.
