미국 오하이오(Ohio) 주 콜럼버스(Columbus)에서 26일 개막한 축제 `오하이오 스테이트 페어(Ohio State Fair)`의 놀이기구에서 승객이 튕겨나가는 사고가 발생, 18세 소년 1명이 숨지고 7 명이 부상당했다고 미국 언론이 보도했습니다. 

사고 소식을 들은 존 케이식(John Kasich) 주지사는 전체 관광 명소의 가동 중단을 명령했습니다. 

현지 소방 당국에 따르면 사망한 18세 남성이 15미터 정도 날아가 땅에 부딪혔다고 합니다. 부상자 중 3명이 중태, 4명은 병세가 안정됐습니다. 

어린이 3명과 스테이트 페어를 방문한 여성은 미국 CNN의 취재에 "좌석의 일부가 분리돼 승객들이 낙하했다"며 "적어도 2명이 20피트(약 6 미터)를 날아가, 허리가 콘크리트 바닥에 부딪혔다"고 말했습니다.

참사 부른 놀이기구 파이어볼을 제작한 네덜란드 제조사 KMG는 사망 사고가 일어난 데 대해 유감을 표시한 뒤 "과거 이 놀이기구로 인한 사고 기록은 없었다"고 주장했습니다.
